U10/U12 boys and girls free soccer scrimmage (06/27/2008): Want to continue playing soccer? Rob Mitchell runs a free soccer scrimmage every Saturday @ 9:00am at the Gibbons field for all U10/U12 player (boys and girls). Please bring 2 shirts, white and blue so we can split up teams. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate. This is not affiliated with SYSL.

Father's Day (06/15/2008): Yes, the fields are OPEN today (Father's Day). Let's get those last games of the season "in" today and call it a season. Dress appropriately. Have fun!!!

All Coaches - Coach Appreciation Night!! (06/07/2008): It's not easy being a youth soccer coach. It requires a lot of time and effort, and it often goes unnoticed. Stoughton Youth Soccer would like to recognize all of you for devoting your time to the league. Please see the attached invitation regarding Coach Appreciation Night on Friday 06/13/2008 @ 6:30pm. We do ask that RSVPs be made to Joanne Gately at jkgately@verizon.net so we may plan accordingly.

MLS Star Jay Heaps Comes to SYSL (06/07/2008): Stoughton Youth Soccer League would like to invite you to meet Jay Heaps from the New England Revolution on Sunday 06/07/2008, at the Kolz Soccer Complex on West Street from 12:00pm to 1:30pm for autographs and meet Slyde, the Revolution mascot.

All Families - Avon Orders are IN (06/07/2008): The Avon orders are in. While many people picked them up this past weekend, many have not been picked up. Please ask your players to pick them up this weekend. Alternatively, they can contact Nancy via nancyos@comcast.net to arrange pick up with Nancy at her house. If anyone still wants to place an order or place an additional order, it will still count towards the fundraiser. The orders should be placed by contacting Nancy via nancyos@comcast.net.

All Families (05/23/2008): Register for Fall 2008 Soccer! Don't wait and get left behind!

U5 Coaches (05/19/2008): We will be using Field 2 only for the remainder of the season. Field assignments have been changed below. Note: The game and concession schedule are to follow Game #, it is not by date. We have played Game #1-4 to date. Click for details

All U5, U6, U8 Parents (05/12/2008): The revised scheduled for in-house play has been decided upon. The season will be extended one week until June 15th, rather than ending on June 8th as previously planned. In addition, we will have:

U5 and U6 games on Monday May 19th
U8 games on Tuesday May 20th

The games will be instead of group practice, but will not start until 6PM. The concession stand will be open both evenings with hot dogs, nachos, fried dough, pretzels, etc. For Monday the 19th, the U6 games will take place on field 1 (on their scheduled quarter field), whereas the U5 games will all take place on field 2 (on the modified 6 field as before).

All U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 Parents (05/12/2008): For U10 and older players, there will be a goalkeeper clinic held on Thursday May 15th on field 1, starting at 6PM. Any player U10-U18 interested in learning new goalkeeper skills, or practicing their current goalkeeper skills, are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Mario Ramos at revfan12@verizon.net so we may plan accordingly.

All Parents (05/06/2008): The Avon Fundraiser orders Sunday. Please get those orders in so deliveries can occur in a timely manner. You can hand them into the Concession stand. Thank you! All Families (04/14/2008): Cheryl Flanagan passed away last night in her sleep at home. Cheryl was a long time supporter of Stoughton Youth Soccer League in many capacities as a coach and member of Board of Directors. Cheryl is widely known for her enthusiastic support and dedication to all players and teams. She will be greatly missed. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, April 17 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Burial will be private. Click for more information.

All U5Coaches (04/12/2008): We're not going to let a little lousy weather prevent our last opportunity to get together, so let's do it. Let's meet by the concession stand. All U5 coaches and assistant coaches, please plan on attending. This session is for you and the only prize will be the knowledge you take away as you prepare for your Spring 2008 season. U5, U6, U8b/g (03/15/2008): Group practices are starting soon. All coaches and assistant coaches are expected to attend and work with the Director of Coaching to help teach our kids the basics of soccer. Parents are expected to attend on the sidelines in case their help is needed. All group practices are at the Gibbons soccer field.

All Parents: We are missing a significant amount of payments and signed registration forms. We have approached Stoughton Post Office and it appears that there may have been possible backroom mismanagement during the mid-Jan to first week of Feb 2008 timeframe. Thus, we are calling on many families to make sure payment and registration form are completed properly. Usually, this means sending in a second payment. No need to put a stop payment on the first check. In the unlikely event that the initial payment is received, we will inform you. In the more unlikely event that two payments are depositted, simply provide a photo copy of the check deposits and we will refund one of the payments. If you have already received confirmation, then your registration is fine.

What volunteer opportunities does SYSL offer?
There are many volunteer position that we desperately need to fill:
- Coaching and Assistant Coaching
- Concession Stand
- Field opening/closing, seasonal and every weekend
- Special events e.g. movie night, player clinics, coaching clinics
- Install new backstops behind 3 goals
- TOPSoccer program
- Sponsors and sponsorships - we need a group to manage this process

Do coaches and SYSL board members get paid?
No, all positions in SYSL are totally voluntary including Board of Directors, Members at Large, Division Coordinators, and Concession Stand volunteers. 100% of registration fees and sponsorship goes towards the players and soccer program.
Why volunteer if there's no pay?
Every volunteer is rewarded by feeling successful that their time and energy help better our town's youth soccer program and being a part of organization dedicated to the game of soccer.
I've never coached before - what should I do?
Talk to as many parent volunteers in SYSL as you feel comfortable. Ask questions about how to setup a successful practice or how to coach a youth soccer game. All coaches have had to take that "first step." Yes, it's a little scary but the rewards far outway the risks.
